Ephraim and Sarah separated sometime between 1850-1860. She moved back home with her parents. The children were separated, and went to live with other families in other towns. Apparently, Sarah was afflicted with some sort of mental illness. In the 1870 Census of Dixmont, there is a notation next to her name, indicating that she was "insane."
