Andrew's last days were spent living at the National Soldiers' Home in Chelsea, Maine. He had served in the 3rd and 17th Maine Infantry Regiments during the Civil War, enlisting 11 August 1863 and being discharged 4 June 1865 in Washington, DC.
 He and the family lived in Haverhill, Massachusetts, at the time of the 1880 Census. There, he was a shoemaker.

Aurelius served three enlistments during the Civil War. On 15 June 1861, he enlisted as a Private in Co. K, 4th Maine Infantry. He was mustered out of that unit on 25 October 1862. Two weeks earlier, on 11 October 1862, he enlisred as a Private in Co. I, 26th Maine Infantry, and served in that unit until 17 Augsut 1863. Then, on 28 December 1863, he enlisted as a Corporal in Co. L, 1st Maine Heavy Artillery Regiment. He was promoted to Full Sergeant 19 May 1864. He was mustered out on 1 September 1866 (AMERICAN CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS. Ancestry.com).
 Apparently, he and Laura were married shortly after he left the Army. They moved out to Tehama County, in the Sacramento Valley of California, where he ran a farm. After he died, she stayed in California.
