Arthur was a farmer in Campton, New Hampshire, before he took on the proprietorship of the Maplehurst Hotell in Bethlehem, New Hampshire (home of the famous Santa's Village and Six Gun City attractions). He ran that hotel for several years until, between 1920-1930, he retired to Southern Pines, Moore County, North Carolina, where he died. His daughter, Clara, lived with him in Southern Pines.
Before 1920, another daughter, Mary (separated from her husband, Thomas P. Lynch), came to the Bethlehem hotel with her family. In 1920, the staff of the Maplehurst Hotel included Arthur as Proprietor, Clara as Clerk, William A. as Cook, Mary as Cook, and Mary's son, Thomas Lynch, as Bellboy.
