We learn Elizabeth's last name from the 1930 Census of St. Louis, where she and the children were living with her parents, John and Mary Anderson. Elizabeth was working at a bakery at the time. We're not sure of Edward's status in 1930, whether he and Elizabeth were separated, or still maried, or that he had died. She simply lists herself as still married, although Edward is not listed there, nor is he anywhere to be found in the 1930 Census.
