Among the many battles in which he fought (all in Virginia) were Fredericksburg (13 Dec 1862), Siege of Sufolk (11 April-4 May 1863), Drewry's Bluff (14-16 May 1864), Cold Harbor (1-2 June 1864), and the Capture and Defense of Fort Harrison (20-30 Sept 1864). He died of disease at Fort Harrison on 30 January 1865.
