Agraduate of Oxford Hills High School in 1979, Dana worked for his Dad's business, W.H. Knightly Comppany, until his Dad died in 1999. He once owned a clothing store, Tyler's, in Oxford and later Popeye's Variety in South Paris. During the months before his death, he had formed TDK Trucking with his son, Tyler. "He fiercely defended those he loved and what he thought was right and was often the calming influence in troubling times."

Stanley enlisted in the U.S. Army on 16 October 1943. He served throughout World War II as a Corporal in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy.
 After the war, he took a job as shipper at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. After his retirement, he worked as gardener/caretaker of an estate in New Cstle, New Hampshire. He was an excellent skier, tennis player, hiker, birder, woodworker and organizer. His obituary [op.cit.] reflects the love and esteem in which he was held. His family promised to keep his beloved birds fed.
