Charles wrote, "I left Maine when I was 15 years old and went to Minnesota" (Sinnett, THE HISTORY OF THE SCRIBNER FAMILIES [op. cit.], 88). He lived at Patten, ME, Maine Township and Fergus Falls, MN, Burlington, North Dakota (a small town 6 miles from the state capitol of Minot), Kirkelie Township in Ward County, ND, and Bradenton, Florida. He was a rancher, a dairy farmer, and the Postmaster at Tasker, ND (a town no longer on the map).

Apparently, they had lived in Canada for several years (all but one of their children were born in Canada), then moved to Minnesota about 1879, which is where their 13th child, Matthew, was born in August 1879.
