By 1917 (when he registered for the World War I Draft) he was living in Tacoma, Washington, working for a railroad. By 1930, he'd moved on to San Francisco. Calvin nver married.

They had moved there prior to 1918, after having lived for a time in Chicago (he applied for a Passport as a resident of Chicago in 1913). Most of his working years were spent as a civil engineer for the State of Colorado.
