Clyde was a career officer in the U.S. Marines, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel.. After he and Lochie were married, they were stationed in Guam, but were back in the States by 1920. That year, he was stationed at Quantico, Virginia. During World War II, he fought in the Pacific campaign.
 Clyde wrote a book about the Marine Corps, titled A HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS, published by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1939.
 Clyde is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
