In the 1900 Census of Chicago [op.cit], William's birthdate is recorded as February 1861. In the 1920 Census of Huntington Park, Los Angeles County, California (T625, Roll 119, E.D. 562, Page 45A), he lists his occupation as a machinist. COLONIAL FAMILIES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA [op.cit.] states that William's various occupations were "rancher; livestock; real estate broker."

Peter was a wealthy farmer, raiser of livestock (primarily sheep), and a "self made man of business" in Suffield, Ohio. He owned one of the finest farms in Portage County, and was one of the largest shippers of stock in Ohio. He also handled farm machinery and agricultural implements. His story appears in A PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD OF PORTAGE AND SUMMIT COUNTIES, OHIO [op.cit.], pp. 380-387.
