Joseph was a blacksmith, both in civilian life and in the military. On 25 August 1862, he enlisted as a Private in Co. B, 19th Maine Infantry. He was detailed as a blacksmith in 1863, and served throughout the war, being mustered out with the unit on 31 May 1865. Among the major battles in which the 19th Maine took part were Antietam, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Cold Harbor and Petersburg.

Ansel and Celia divorced early in the 1880's. He married his second wife, Hilda, about 1884. They had 5 children before she died prior to 1910. He then married his third wife, Hannah Tower of Lincolnville, in 1915.

Harold served as a Private in the Army during World War II. After the war, he attended Colby College, graduating in 1951, then did graduate work at Fordham University in New York. He was with Merrill-Richardson Pharmaceuticals in New York, before taking a management executive position with ITT, where he worked until retiring in 1983 from O.M. Scott Co. (an ITT company) at Marysville, Ohio. He retired to Florida with his second wife, Nancy Allen, whom he married in 1973.
 His memberships included Waterville, Maine, Lodge No. 33 A.F.&A.M.; Englewood, Florida, Lodge No. 360 A.F.&A.M.; Eastern Star Chapter No. 300 in Englewood; Rotonda (Florida) Elks Lodge No. 3710; the American Legion and the V.F.W.
 Harold is buried in the St. Francis of Assisi Memorial Garden in Englewood, Florida.

During World War II, Hazel worked at Bath Iron Works, helping to build ships for the U.S. Navy. She earned several awards for her good workmanship. She and her husband, Smith, operated Morrell's Antiques in Augusta, Maine. In addition to other involvements, she was a member of Highland Avenue United Methodist Church in Augusta.

Smith served as a Private in World War i, enlisting 25 July 1918 and being discharged 4 December 1918. He disn't serve overseas, but served his enlistment as a member of the 151st Dep Brigade. He and Hazel owned and operated the nationally-known Morrell's Antiques in Augusta.
